Reflections

October 4th, 2006

On 1st October 2006 (one sunday) we closed the Intermediate Spaces at ESC & Steirischer Herbst in Graz / Austria. Until 15th of October it will remain there just as an exhibition. From6th November to 10th November 2006 there will be the Ljubljana / Sloveniapart at Kapelica gallery.

Big thanks to you all, who took time to attend and contribute at the Grazerpart(y) – no matter how long you stayed and if you were participants or attendants.

Those among us, who were there for longer, had an opportunity to experience various phases of highs and lows, but we are nowmuch more connected, which is a great promise for future collaborations. Read the rest of this entry »

a couple of keywords

August 21st, 2006

A couple of keywords appeared so far:

- “open source” principle (in the metaphorical sense it means that nothing is taken as a set form, a recepy – everything is open to debate and to a re-thinking process. In this sense the “open source money” was introduced to me by Chiron Morpheus)

- “diy” (do-it-yourself) principle of the so-called “mini-festival” (in the sense of self-organization, self-motivation, self-representation of artists, who are also the only and the main “capital” of the festival)

- procesuality (no need to present the ready-made project – it can be an intermediate ”live” phase)

- some more keywords?

There is a kind of questionary available that will register participants’ desires and needs. Use it as soon as possible. The formular will be submitted to Borut’s email and saved in database. Check it here .

Be aware that this is basically a self-organized festival, so some extra technical needs should be known in advance – and nothing fancy. To sleep we can choose the basic solution: at the nun?s hotel (for males and females) or in a rented appartement.

During the days there will be three levels of activities:
- the passive: installations, exhibitions
- the interactive/interpassive: debates, presentations, social actions
- the active: performences, concerts
(there is no clear line between the three – let?s keep it open & fluid)

First deadlines

August 8th, 2006

In english (click more for slovene): In the beginning of august Mojca and me met with our Graz partner Reni Hofmueller. Reni named and described participants from Graz, that are of the same variety as Ljubljana participants. Who are they? We also declared two deadlines.

First is 15th of  august, when we have to know when in the week of the Graz event (23. september to 1. oktober) someone will be in Graz – to make the reservations for rooms. It would be necessary also to define more precisely the dates and specifics of presentations, so that it can form a kind of skeleton of the mini-festival.

It became clear that a translator from slovene to english will be needed for the presentation by Bostjan Leskov?ek. Milena Kosec will need an local partner to help her with her public interventions in the streets of Graz.

Second deadline is the 31st august, when we have to have the material for the flyer ready. It should include all the participants, dates and hours, titles, descriptions, other texts… of participants’ most concrete presentations/performances/installations/exhibitions.

Participants lost and found
Lost is Milijana Babi? for reasons of family illness.

Found is Irena Toma?in, that confirmed her participation for two days.

Lost for physical participation is Chiron Morpheus for reasons of family holidays, but he will try to connect telematically from Greece and present his idea of Ideotop - over the net and onto the screen of ESC.

:end of english

Intro by Reni: Graz participants

July 22nd, 2006

I can give you a list of names, if not the concrete projects yet, as they are still developping them. i was looking for a mixture of different people in order to mix the worlds here as well.

as for funding, i do not know yet if we get any one to go to ljubljana, but this we will see you are right about other european funding sources, but currently it seems to be difficult to get  anything if not so-called “new or upcoming members” are involved.

Nada ?gank is professional photographer who in the past decade has documented almost all the relevant cultural and subcultural events.

She will presnt a set of jazz photos from 2001 to 2006 – documentation of events from mostly Ljubljana, but also elsewhere. It is a 10m by 1m long impregnated roll. It was recently exhibited in Mala galerija of Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana.

Together with Mojca Punger?ar this year they made host of photos from the highway construction site in Slovenia. She will use it as visuals to an improvised audiovisual event joined by other participants, with special appearance by Irena Toma?in who will make an improvised choreography to it. It might be entitled Autobahn (tribute to Kraftwerk…) Read the rest of this entry »

Milena Kosec

July 21st, 2006

In Graz, I will recontextualize (Austrian parliamentary elections) my public action, that I, as a formal representative of the Scarecrow State, performed in the year of 1995 on the route to Venice Biennale, on the streets of Venice and in the Zvezda park in Ljubljana.

Barbato Kanak

July 21st, 2006

BARBATO KANAK
No communication. Just presentation.

Barbato Kanak je pozoren na sekundne prebliske, na vedno nova obujanja lepega, globoka ?utenja. Na ?tiri letne ?ase. Na Off. Na Eksperiment. YES. NO. NOMAD je potnik, ki se ne vra?a. BOG JE VELIK. DREVO JE ? E VE?JE.

Barbato Kanak pays attention to momentary flashes, to constant evocation of beauty, to deep feelings. On Four Seasons. On Off. On Experiment. YES. NO. NOMAD is a passenger who never comes back. GOD IS BIG. A TREE IS EVEN BIGGER.

Boštjan Leskovšek ROR

March 27th, 2006

As a presentation…

Materiality of ROR remembers the first inarticulate, mumbling voices, purely organ sounds emerging from within the body. This memory is littered with events over psychosocial conditions in time and space. Its binding are the responses of flesh to the thinking of the machine. Hierarchy of thinking and the machineness of life are the occupation and struggle of ROR’s primary origins.

Luka Prinčič

March 20th, 2006

Luka Prin?i? (alias: DJ Nova; born 1977) is a “copyleft” author, dj and programmer. Within the area of his research of open programming tools, the generative musical and visual (3D) approaches and the open performative practices his question is: what do we need to become an active part in the interactive action of an artist and especially with his interfaces/machines. What are the micro-social algoritms, that sustain our presence and activity. What is the generative moment, not that of an artist, but that of the sound of the machine – it’s algoritm and the interaction of all of us with it.

With his formulation of the ?Temporary sound systems – the tools of autonomy??, he comes close to the manifest or even political level.

Marija Mojca Pungerčar

March 15th, 2006

A former fashion designer (1983?1987), she holds a BFA in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana (1989) and an MFA in new genres from the San Francisco Art Institute (2001). Her work has been concerned with communication and exchange in a broad sense of meaning. Her work in general has a strong documentary character. In many cases she explores the verge between documentation and subversion. In some other projects she uses documentary as the groundwork, and then she implies new structures over it.

Chiron Morpheus

March 13th, 2006

Formerly known as Bojan A?man, Chiron is the initiator of a LETS (”local exchange trading system”) web application as an educational tool to build up complex (more than one to one…) non-convertible value exchange system. Autonomy begins with value system. The web interface will be a model for additional projects of structures that are based on exchange economies (psycho-economy, socio-economy, work-economy & trading economy). As such it is a civic intervention – a parallel value system to existing dominant structures of exchange and evaluation.

Borut Savski

March 12th, 2006

I can propose some of my projects, that would be presented as a sort of performances, partly workshops and some even as lectures. My work is a kind of weaving of some knowledge about life (of course) and things through discovering of the relationships that exist among particularities that form a structure that we usually call culture. It is a kind of deconstruction of these (cultural) structures and reconstruction into some new form which is usually an object making movements and producing sounds.
