The artists Marija Mojca Pungercar and SOHO in Ottakring invite you to participate at the sewing workshop »Socialdress Serve & Store Bags«. Welcome are those who like to sew and are older than 16 years! The workshop is free.

The workshop will be held at the festival Urbanize!, Festivalzentrale, Marxergasse 1, 1030 Wien, on Saturday, October 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sunday, October 4, from 2.– 5 p.m.

How to get there: U3, U4, S-trains, Landstraße-Wien Mitte.

At the workshop, textile bags for serving and storing bread, potatoes and grains will be produced. One of the inspirations for the workshop is a vintage cotton bread bag for storing and serving bread. The word bread is often embroidered on traditional bread bags.

Workshop participants will be able to create their own personalized bags on which individual, tasty statements on food/ food politics can be applied. Simple words can be embroidered, for example, or they can be cut from fabric and attached on the bags.

After the workshop, the products will be exhibited at the Urbanize! Festival until October 11th. After the end of the festival, the bread bags will be put in function on October 13th, at the event  »Gemeinschaftliches Kochen der Suppe in Kooperation mit „20 Jahre AUGUSTIN“« at SOHO- Projektwerkstatt Sandleitenhof, Rosa-Luxemburg-Gasse 9, 1160 Vienna. They will be used to serve bread at a public soup dinner, which will be cooked from dumpstered ingredients.

The bags for storing potatoes and grains will be included into the art installation of Marija Mojca Pungercar and will be shown at the exhibition „9.000 km Delicacies – on Traveling Knowledge“ from October 15 – 29/ 2015 in the old cinema of Sandleitenhof, Karl-Liebknecht-Gasse 32, 1160 Vienna.

After the end of the exhibition, the bags will be returned to the producers.

PROCESS
The workshop will be led by Marija Mojca Pungercar and two sewing assistants. Prior knowledge of sewing is not required. The organisers will provide material, sewing machines, a digital embroidery machine, and tools. We suggest that you bring your own scissors.

APPLICATION
The workshop places are limited. The prior reservation is not required but it is recommended. We will accept participants until all places are booked. For booking a place at the workshop and more information, please write to the email address: contact@sohoinottakring.at.

ABOUT THE SOCIALDRESS PROJECT
Marija Mojca Pungercar, the author of the project Socialdress (since 2006), uses the term “social dress” for clothing that has an integrative effect on a community. The Socialdress workshops spread knowledge about clothes making, at the same time raising awareness for the consequences of globalization and the gradual disappearance of craft skills. At the Socialdress workshops, participants create functional, easy to make items of clothing with full spirit. An important part of the workshops is an exchange of stories, statements and experiences.

Socialdress Serve & Store Bags – Nähwerkstatt zur Produktion von textilen Beuteln

In der Nähwerkstatt von „Socialdress“ geht es um das Thema Ernährung. TeilnehmerInnen der Nähwerkstatt haben die Möglichkeit, ihre eigenen personalisierten Beutel zum Servieren und Aufbewahren von Brot, Kartoffeln und Getreide zu produzieren. Einfache Worte können gestickt oder aus Stoff geschnitten und auf die Beutel genäht werden – schmackhafte und weniger schmackhafte Aussagen über Lebensmittel und unsere Lebensmittelpolitik.

Die Nähwerkstatt wird von der Künstlerin Marija Mojca Pungercar und zwei Assistentinnen geleitet. Die Stoffe für die Beutel stammen aus einer geschlossenen Textilfabrik in Slowenien oder werden von Einzelpersonen gespendet.

Inspirationen für den Workshop sind traditionelle Brotbeutel aus Baumwolle zum Aufbewahren und Servieren von Brot. Das Wort „Brot“ wurde oft auf diese Beutel gestickt. Brot wird im weitesten Sinne als Synonym für Nahrung verstanden: »Gib uns heute unser tägliches Brot«.

Die Socialdress Workshops verstärken das Bewusstsein über die Folgen von Globalisierung (auch in der Textilproduktion) und über das allmähliche Verschwinden von handwerklichen Fähigkeiten. Ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Workshops ist ein Austausch von Geschichten, Gedanken und Erfahrungen.

Nach dem urbanize Festival -werden die Beutel (in Absprache mit den HerstellerInnen) am Di,13. Oktober im Rahmen eines Suppenabends von SOHO in Ottakring zur Verwendung kommen und anschließend in der Ausstellung „9.000km Häppchen – wanderndes Wissen“ (15. – 29. Die Beutel werden den ProduzentInnen nach Ende der Ausstellung retourniert.

Marija Mojca Pungercar, slowenische Künstlerin und Autorin des Projekts Socialdress (seit 2006), verwendet den Begriff “soziales Kleid” für Bekleidung, die eine integrative Wirkung auf die Gemeinschaft hat. www.socialdress.net

  • Generative algorithmic composition excerpts based on realtime video data for Francisco Tomsich "ELEGIJA | ELEGY" video installation presented from 10th to 21st July 2020 at Cirkulacija 2 Ljubljana Slovenia. Elegija (Elegy) is a mournful song performed by ensemble of video installations, sculptures and sound installation – made specifically for Cirkulacija 2’s premises. The installation setup was totally site-specific – for the new space of Cirkulacija 2 in Ajdovščina subway.
  • Field recordings in air and water during the Cirkulacija 2 visit in Finland. The place of rest and contemplation was at Future Lake near Helsinki and the performance place was on Merikerho club/ ship in Helsinki harbor. Boštjan Leskovšek was using the underwater recordings as his instrument. Here it is as separate album.
  • A recording of Cirkulacija 2 (Stefan Doepner, Boštjan Leskovšek, Borut Savski) performance at Merikerho club Helsinki Finland on 20th October 2018. Visit was part of two-way exchange between Ljubljana and Helsinki (Cirkulacija 2 and Koelse = Association of experimental electronics – Kokeellisen Elektroniikan Seura)
  • V gosteh v C2 je bil John Duncan, eden temeljnih sodobnih radikalnih umetnikov zadnjih štirideset let. Z Duncanom smo v veliki dvorani Cirkulacije 2 v treh dneh pripravili kvadrofonsko situacijo v kateri smo se zvrstili vsi sodelujoči. Domači sodelujoči: Iva Tratnik, Stefan Doepner, Boštjan Leskovšek in Borut Savski.

On the occasion of Mike Hentz' Mental Landscapes lecture at Cirkulacija 2 - a concert occurred: Javier Areal Vélez – Argentinian composer and guitar improviser claiming to be open to any kind of participation visited C2. He was joined by the two local strummers: Leskovšek and Savski.
