The workshop Theremin (originally named eterofon, tereminofon or termenovox/terminovox) is one of the earliest electronic instruments. It was patented in 1926 by Lev Sergeyevich Termen from Russia and is unique in a way that it is most likely the only electronic instrument that can be played without touching it. It can be build from two radio oscillators and two antennas. We play on it by moving our hands around the antennas thus regulating the tone’s intensity and height. The participants will learn short stories of the theremin’s history, development and technical characteristics. They will build their own theremin and connect it to the computer which will help them create and compose new, more interesting sounds and/or video recordings. Borut Savski (KUD TRIVIA) is an intermedia, interdisciplinary and multimedia artist that feels very comfortable working with sound, music, generative abstract video, robotic/cybernetic objects for which he says are a “metaphor” – as a part of generative interactive systems which are a metaphor of the “living” systems. His most important field of work are more intelligent horizontal connections between people and creation & development of non-hierarchical frames in practice and these things are not very easy to do in Slovenia. http://www.3via.org/records/index.php?page=item&id=38 Six members of the Ljubljana Theremidi Orchestra will be assisting at the workshop and will perform together with the new theremins. These members are: Robertina Šebjanič, Ida Hiršenfelder, Saša Špačal, Luka Frelih, Matic Urbanija and Dare Pejič.
