Marija Mojca Pungercar participates on the Textil{e}tronics exhibition with her project Socialdress.<\/p>\n

The curator Deborah Hustic invited four artists: Anda Klancic (Slovenia), Marija Mojca Pungercar (Slovenia), Josipa Stefanec (Croatia), and Patrizia Dona (Croatia). Following the development of a simple thread into complex new media objects, the exhibition will touch upon recent developments in the areas of wearable technology and electronic sculpting through lumino light objects and the presentation of Arduino microcontrollers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dealing with sculptural textile (J. \u0160tefanec) and electronic thread (A. Klan\u010di\u0107), designed substance and new meanings of objects (P. Dona), as well as socially responsible textile art (M. M. Punger\u010dar), the exhibition presents an overview of contemporary new media directions and questions the meaning of the medium as such.<\/div>\n

The Socialdress project spreads knowledge about clothes making, at the same time reinforcing awareness about the consequences of globalization to the Slovenian textile industry, and about the gradual disappearance of craft skills.<\/div>\n

About Marija Mojca Pungercar:<\/div>\n
Artist based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. A former fashion designer (1983 \u20ac\u201c1987), she holds a BFA in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana (1989) and an MFA in new genres from the San Francisco Art Institute (2001). Her awards include an Austrian Academic Exchange Scholarship, an ArtsLink Fellowship and a Fulbright Scholarship. She works as a freelance artist (video, photography, performance, installation, theatre costumes design).<\/div>\n
