The artists Marija Mojca Pungercar and SOHO in Ottakring invite you to participate at the sewing workshop \u00bbSocialdress Serve & Store Bags \u00ab. Welcome are those who like to sew and are older than 16 years! The workshop is free.<\/p>\n

The workshop will be held at the festival Urbanize!<\/a>, Festivalzentrale, Marxergasse 1, 1030 Wien, on Saturday, October 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sunday, October 4, from 2. \u20ac\u201c 5 p.m.<\/p>\n

How to get there: U3, U4, S-trains, Landstra\u00c3\u0178e-Wien Mitte.<\/p>\n

At the workshop, textile bags for serving and storing bread, potatoes and grains will be produced. One of the inspirations for the workshop is a vintage cotton bread bag for storing and serving bread. The word bread is often embroidered on traditional bread bags.<\/p>\n

Workshop participants will be able to create their own personalized bags on which individual, tasty statements on food\/ food politics can be applied. Simple words can be embroidered, for example, or they can be cut from fabric and attached on the bags.<\/p>\n

After the workshop, the products will be exhibited at the Urbanize! Festival until October 11th. After the end of the festival, the bread bags will be put in function on October 13th, at the event \u00bbGemeinschaftliches Kochen der Suppe in Kooperation mit \u20ac\u017e20 Jahre AUGUSTIN \u20ac\u0153 \u00ab at SOHO- Projektwerkstatt Sandleitenhof, Rosa-Luxemburg-Gasse 9, 1160 Vienna. They will be used to serve bread at a public soup dinner, which will be cooked from dumpstered ingredients.<\/p>\n

The bags for storing potatoes and grains will be included into the art installation of Marija Mojca Pungercar and will be shown at the exhibition \u20ac\u017e9.000 km Delicacies \u20ac\u201c on Traveling Knowledge \u20ac\u0153 from October 15 \u20ac\u201c 29\/ 2015 in the old cinema of Sandleitenhof, Karl-Liebknecht-Gasse 32, 1160 Vienna.<\/p>\n

After the end of the exhibition, the bags will be returned to the producers.<\/p>\n

PROCESS
\n<\/strong>The workshop will be led by Marija Mojca Pungercar and two sewing assistants. Prior knowledge of sewing is not required. The organisers will provide material, sewing machines, a digital embroidery machine, and tools. We suggest that you bring your own scissors.<\/p>\n

APPLICATION
\n<\/strong>The workshop places are limited. The prior reservation is not required but it is recommended. We will accept participants until all places are booked. For booking a place at the workshop and more information, please write to the email address: contact@sohoinottakring.at.<\/p>\n

ABOUT THE SOCIALDRESS PROJECT
\n<\/strong>Marija Mojca Pungercar, the author of the project Socialdress (since 2006), uses the term \u20ac\u0153social dress \u20ac\u009d for clothing that has an integrative effect on a community. The Socialdress workshops spread knowledge about clothes making, at the same time raising awareness for the consequences of globalization and the gradual disappearance of craft skills. At the Socialdress workshops, participants create functional, easy to make items of clothing with full spirit. An important part of the workshops is an exchange of stories, statements and experiences.<\/p>\n

Socialdress Serve & Store Bags – N\u00c3\u00a4hwerkstatt zur Produktion von textilen Beuteln<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

In der N\u00c3\u00a4hwerkstatt von \u20ac\u017eSocialdress \u20ac\u0153 geht es um das Thema Ern\u00c3\u00a4hrung. TeilnehmerInnen der N\u00c3\u00a4hwerkstatt haben die M\u00c3\u00b6glichkeit, ihre eigenen personalisierten Beutel zum Servieren und Aufbewahren von Brot, Kartoffeln und Getreide zu produzieren. Einfache Worte k\u00c3\u00b6nnen gestickt oder aus Stoff geschnitten und auf die Beutel gen\u00c3\u00a4ht werden – schmackhafte und weniger schmackhafte Aussagen \u00c3\u00bcber Lebensmittel und unsere Lebensmittelpolitik.<\/p>\n

Die N\u00c3\u00a4hwerkstatt wird von der K\u00c3\u00bcnstlerin Marija Mojca Pungercar und zwei Assistentinnen geleitet. Die Stoffe f\u00c3\u00bcr die Beutel stammen aus einer geschlossenen Textilfabrik in Slowenien oder werden von Einzelpersonen gespendet.<\/p>\n

Inspirationen f\u00c3\u00bcr den Workshop sind traditionelle Brotbeutel aus Baumwolle zum Aufbewahren und Servieren von Brot. Das Wort \u20ac\u017eBrot \u20ac\u0153 wurde oft auf diese Beutel gestickt. Brot wird im weitesten Sinne als Synonym f\u00c3\u00bcr Nahrung verstanden: \u00bbGib uns heute unser t\u00c3\u00a4gliches Brot \u00ab.<\/p>\n

Die Socialdress Workshops verst\u00c3\u00a4rken das Bewusstsein \u00c3\u00bcber die Folgen von Globalisierung (auch in der Textilproduktion) und \u00c3\u00bcber das allm\u00c3\u00a4hliche Verschwinden von handwerklichen F\u00c3\u00a4higkeiten. Ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Workshops ist ein Austausch von Geschichten, Gedanken und Erfahrungen.<\/p>\n
